Jungle gym and play areas
All cottages have access to a jungle gym and play area.
Visit the alpaca boys and the farm goats
The alpacas and goats are always entertaining.
Mountain Biking Routes
The farm and gravel roads in the immediate area makes it easy to go for a challenging or laid back, scenic mountainbike outing.
Cycling along the Wilderness Lakes area is a very popular route.
While the forests of the Bergplaas area provides some awe-inspiring views as well as some challenging climbs. Permits are necessary for the Bergplaas area.
River Trail (hiking/trailrunning/MTB)
An 8km or extended trail can easily be accessed from any of the cottages.

Activities & Attractions
in the surrounding area
The area is a huge attraction for any nature-lover. Hiking, bird-watching, paragliding, canoeing, surfing, whale-watching and mountain-biking are just some of the activities this area is well known for. Visits to the dairy and feeding the calves are always an exciting experience for the kids. Guests are close to all the tourist activities but are able to retreat to the quiet and tranquil surrounds of Libertas to rest and plan the next days’ action.
Bird Watching
The Malachite bird hide is nestled amongst the reeds along the Langvlei. The number of birds you will be able to view from this hide will excite any keen twitcher.
Hiking
There are several day hikes in the area. The closest being the Brown-hooded Kingfisher trail which starts about 4km from Libertas and takes about 2hours to complete. It leads you up the valley along the Duiwe River and to a waterfall with a rock pool for swimming. Plenty of forest birds can be seen along the way.
Canoeing
Canoeing on the Touw river or the Serpentine river within the Garden Route National Park (8km from Libertas).

Fishing
Sling your hook from one of the popular fishing spots in the area, Groenvlei and Swartvlei lakes or from the beach – you decide.
Golf
The Garden Route has many courses to choose from (Fancourt, Simola, Oubaai, Kingswood, Pezula, Pinnacle Point, Goose valley, Plett, George), as well as some mashie courses (closest being 8km from Libertas).
Surfing
Some of the best beaches for swimming, surfing, kiteboarding, fishing: Herolds bay / Victoria bay / Buffalo bay / Wilderness beach /Sedgefield lagoon beach / Myoli beach
Mountain Biking
Hoekwil is mountainbike country. The number of route options will overwhelm any keen mountainbiker and is guaranteed not to disappoint. The farm owners are keen mountainbikers themselves and will be able to provide you with countless routes. The Kingfisher MTB race is a local race. It is an established MTB race and rated as one of the best in the Western Cape. It is usually held during March/April every year. Be on the look-out for the date of this adventurous and fun-filled family event.
Acrobranch Tree-top Adventures
The Garden Route Acrobranch Outdoor Activity Park is situated in Wilderness.
Visit the Woodville Big Tree
The indigenous forest at the Woodville Big Tree is a favourite for nature lovers. The actual tree is an 800-year old Outeniqua Yellowood.
A day on the beach
Walking on the endless pristine beaches of this area isan absolute joy. Enjoy the sun, swim in the Indian ocean,do some whale watching, spot the dolphins in the surf,or just hang ten.
Paragliding
The local paragliding clubs take to the skies in andaround Wilderness and Sedgefield on every flyable day.You can contact one of the many tandem operators inthe area for an adrenalin rush like no other.
Adventure sportsHorse
For the wild and sporty types, the area abounds with activities and adventures – some of which include absailing, canyoning/kloofing, surfing, diving, sailing, hang-gliding.
Horse riding
For more information on horse riding in the area, checkout the websites for Blackwater Horse Trails or Oakhurst Farm. If you’re staying at the Farmhouse, Suz can treat the kids to a pony ride on the rescue horses right next door.
Outeniqua Power Van
This is a unique eco experience and you can enjoy the Garden Route from the comfort of rail busses in exclusive groups. Travel in the Outeniqua Mountains along one of the most scenic railway passes in the country.
Redberry Farm
This activity is great for families with younger kids. There are many activities for both young and old at this fun farm in the Geelhoutboom area (west of George): Hedge maze, delicatessen, strawberry picking, pedal go-carts, Redberry Express (kids train), Tea Garden, bumper boats, bubble balls, pony rides, etc.
Whale & Dolphin Watching
At the Dolphin’s point look-out one can do whale watching during the months of July to November when they come to our part of the world to mate and calf. It isa real honour to have these majestic mammals choosing our beaches as a safe haven.The dolphins can also be seen often. Or you could do a boat-based whale-watching tour withone of the many operators from Knysna.
Take a scenic drive
Visit the famous “Map of Africa” in WildernessHeights Drive along the scenic winding Old forest road (“bospad”) between Touwsranten and George – very popular with hikers and mountain-bikers all year round. Or drive east on the Seven Passes road towardsBarrington, Karatara & Rheenendal, and stop at Totties for lunch and a cold drink. You can even take it even further and drive all the way to Knysna’s white bridge along the Phantom pass.
Visit Oudtshoorn
Oudtshoorn, the capital of the Klein Karoo with its world-famous Cango Caves, ostrich farms and more, is only 80 minutes away. The Cango Wildlife Ranch presents a fun outing for the whole family.
Bistro Celeiro
Visit the inimitable Bistro Celeiro (just around the corner from Libertas, close to the Dieprivier bridge). This family- run business concentrates on freshly prepared, mostly locally sourced, slow food and has a great view of the Outeniqua Mountains.
Spa’s
Spoil yourselves with Spa treatments from one of the 5-star Spa’s in the Wilderness area – always enjoyable. Closest would be The Views Spa.
